Really Rottens
30th May 2007 A tale of two teams...
by Marc Armstrong
A lighthearted look at last nights match, 3 In A Bed vs Really Rottens.
'Let me set the scene for you, the Arena Bar with two teams looking to win, with
one of the teams more determined than the other and it wasn’t the Really Rottens.
The electricity coming from the vast crowd rapidly charged 3 in a Bed as the
match started. The first triples match was a close game as both teams were looking
to check out and for a while, it looked as if neither team were going to do it but
in the end, the crowd roared as Mickey (TIB)checked out giving 3 in a Bed the first
point of the evening.
The crowd were silenced in the second triples match as Marc (RRS)stepped up to the
ochy and checked out with a single dart for the Rottens making the scores even going
into the doubles matches.
As both Captains decided their team format for the doubles, you could cut the atmosphere
from the crowd with a feather.
The first pairing between Chris & Rich (TIB)and Kenny & Jeff (RRS) was a match that
the Rottens would sooner forget as 3 in a Bed took this game 2 – 0 with both Chris
& Rick (TIB) checking out to secure the points and the crowd erupted once again.
Both Kenny & Jeff (RRS) were feeling very disappointed as they both knew that they
had the chances to win this game but sometimes when you are so far behind in the
scoring department it is not easy to check out on 240.
The second pairing between Mickey & Glen (TIB) and Lars & Marc (RRS) was a much
closer game; the crowd was silenced as Lars (RRS) checked out for the Rottens to
take the first leg. The second leg was 1 way traffic for 3 in a Bed as neither of
the Rottens players could hit a damn thing and with scores of 3, 5, 7 & 9 it was
looking bad for them, but all due to Mickey (TIB), he put them out of their misery
and checked out to roar of the crowd evening up this game. The third leg was a little
bit more even and both teams matched each other going to the doubles, where both
Lars & Marc (RRS) struggled to get the finish they needed, which left Mickey (TIB)
once again to step up and finish the game in favour of 3 in a Bed and the crowd
were out of their seats cheering once again.
The third pairing between Justin & John (TIB) and Alex & Les (RRS). This game was
similar to the first pairing only this time the crowd was put back in their seats
and silenced as both Alex & Les (RRS) took this game 2 – 0, with Alex (RRS) the
dominating factor in this game as he checked out on both occasions, Justin & John
(TIB) had difficulty in dealing with the pressure brought upon them by the vast
crowd and it showed as neither player could get the scores they required to make
a challenge on the Rottens.
So after the doubles 3 in a Bed were 3 – 2 up and they were feeling quietly confident
as both captains sorted out their singles games players for what could be one of
the biggest upsets so far this season.
The home crowd got behind their team as the first game got underway. Chris (TIB)
took on the mighty Guppy (RRS) in what some may have thought would have been a one
sided match, well as it happens it was, but not in the way people thought it would
as Chris (TIB) sent Guppy (RRS) back to the bar with a 2 – 0 victory, the crowd
were in high spirits once again or was it the crowd were drinking spirits again!!!!!!!!!!
TIB 4 - 2 RRS
The second game between Glen (TIB) & Lars (RRS) went almost the same as the first
game but this time it was Lars (RRS) who took both legs to take this match 2 – 0.
The captain proved his worth by making sure of the win for the Rottens to bring
the score back to within reach and once again silence the crowd. TIB 4 – 3 RRS
The third game between John (TIB) & Alex (RRS) was almost a carbon copy of the previous
match with Alex (RRS) taking the game 2 – 0. Mr Consistency, played a very strong
game and didn’t allow John (TIB) much of a look at the doubles and brought the scores
back to 4 – 4. During the first leg Alex (RRS) showed his authority by checking
out with an impressive 85.
The fourth game between Mickey (TIB) & Kenny (RRS) was a hard fought game with both
players taking a leg each making the 3rd leg the decider, both players scored well
and they were both looking for a double to win this game. Kenny (RRS) just couldn’t
get near the double and Mickey (TIB) also had problems but finally managed the checkout
to the roars of the intimidating crowd putting TIB 5 – 4 in the lead.
It was now down to the last two pairings to decide the outcome of the night’s match,
if 3 in a Bed could take both games then the match was theirs, but if the Rottens
could win then they would be guaranteed at least one point going into the team game.
The fifth game between Dave (TIB)and Jeff (RRS) was another hard fought game with
both players taking a leg each and again making the 3rd leg the decider, this match
could have gone either way but Jeff (RRS)got his darts scoring the better and with
the vast crowd silenced he checked out making the score 5 – 5.
So down to the last singles game between Justin (TIB) & Marc (RRS), as the previous
game this one also went to the 3rd and deciding leg after both players dominated
1 leg each. Some good darts were thrown during the third leg from both players but
it was Marc (RRS) in the end who checked out to give the Rottens a 6 – 5 lead going
into the team game.
So as the captains and their teams went to decide on their players for the team
game the crowd started to lose interest and moved over to the pool table, where
I believe Joseph lost to his girlfriend. Again. But that’s another story...
So the team game got underway and a good battle it turned out to be, with both teams
on a double for what seemed like an eternity. Jeff (RRS) finally came up with the
goods to secure yet another win for The Rottens.
So the final score was TIB 5 - 7 RRS with 11 - 14 in games. So a very creditable
performance by 3 in a Bed who will be feeling a bit unlucky that they couldn’t capitalise
on RRS poor form last night.
A total of 20 tons for the Rottens with Kenny (RRS) coming out best with 5 and a
total of 18 tons for 3 in a Bed with Dave (TIB) coming out on top with 4
Man of the Match last night has to go to Alex (RRS) with his high finish and his
consistent darts, however close in contention was Mickey (TIB) who only lost out
because Alex was unbeaten all night.
A good fun night had by all and sure we will be seeing 3 in a Bed in the top flight
after the mid season split.
