Weekly Wrap – Round 1

Posted by on February 11, 2012 in League Cup | 0 comments

The weekly wrap is back again for 2012, bringing you all the news from all the divisions. Round 1 saw 26 team battle it out around Saigon and in true SIDL fashion we already have our first 180 and a massive 123 checkout.

The site is looking a little bare at the moment but you should notice a lot more content going up over the next week or two after I settle into my new role at work.

Division 1

Newly promoted Those Guys hosted Ice Blue the reigning champions (although with a noticeably different lineup). Things started well for the under dogs with Those Guys winning both triples matches although the mood quickly changed when Ice Blue won all 3 doubles matches. Ice Blue continued to impose their authority winning 4 of the singles matches giving them an insurmountable lead going into the team game. Final score was Ice Blue def Those Guys 7-5 (15-11)

For the winners it was Craig, Negi and Rick doing the damage with 3 checks each. Rick scoring the leagues first 180 for the year. Odi played well for Those Guys with 3 checks including a 94 out.

It was a case of deja vu for Da Vinci’s and Sheridan’s as they repeated the scoreline from their practice match a week before. The lead exchanged a few times during the night but it wasn’t until Sheridan’s strong performance in the singles that the deadlock was broken. After winning 4 of the singles matches they led 6-5 and had the unenviable task of going for the win in the team game. Da Vinci’s weren’t having any of it and outscored their opponents in the team game and left the check for their Captain. Da Vinci’s tied with Sheridan’s 6-6 (10-12).

Brian showed that he is enjoying his darts at new home Sheridan’s after he first checked on 74 and then followed it up with a 123 (19,T18,DBull) along with 4 tons to top of an impressive display. He was assisted by Matt who added 4 checks of his own. Whilst for Da Vinci’s the majority of the damage was done by captain Paul and their new recruit Peter.

Crazy Chicken also joined division 1 this year and started the night out strongly leading 3-2 against last years runners up ALAYAH before the singles matches. They were unable to keep up the pressure and managed only 4 out of the maximum 13 legs remaining. ALAYAH def. Crazy Chicken 8-4 (15-9).

Alan, Stubbsy and Lee all had 3 checks for ALAYAH whilst it was Fred and Vu continuing where they left off last year with 3 checks each.

The final match was between an undermanned Really Rottens’ outfit and Mabuhay. It was a pretty straight forward affair with Mabuhay taking control early and not letting up. Mabuhay def. Really Rottens 8-4(15-8)

The only surprise was tons champion Adrian picking up just the 2 for the evening, although that might have something to do with having 11 players on the team.  Lito was the most damaging for the victors with 3 checks which was equaled by Matt for the Rottens.

It’s all pretty even in the checks standings as you would imagine after just the one game. Joint leaders are Paul (Da Vinci’s), Brian & Matt V (Sheridan’s) who all have 4 checks each.

The tons lead is shared by Andre(Da Vinci’s) and Tim(Sheridan’s) who both picked up 5 each. Third place is shared by a multitude of players including Peter (Da Vinci’s), Brian (Sheridan’s), Adam (Those Guys) and Craig(Ice Blue) who have 4 each.

High checkout goes to Brian (Sheridan’s) who after only 1 round of competition posted a massive 123 which would have won the trophy last year.

Division 2

Dream Team had a rough start to life in Division 2 having to come back from 4-6 down to snag a draw against Nomads. Nomads went ahead 3-0 early but lost a couple of close doubles 1-2 to bring the score back to 3-3 going into the singles. New recruit Glyn kicked off his season with a win (still waiting on my managerial fee for the transfer) which guaranteed the Nomads a point and a good shot at a win but it wasn’t to be as they lost the team game. Dream drew with Nomads 6-6 (14-12)

Logan and Chad both picked up 4 checks each for the Nomands. Dream Team had Michael, Eng and Johnny come through with 3 checks each.

The Prixxx started 2012 with bang and a massive 10-2 win over Bernies. The scoreline didn’t do the Bernies outfit justice as there were plenty of 2-1 scorelines in some close games. The Prixxx def. Bernies 10-2(18-9)

Bourne starred for the Prixxx with 5 checks and 6 tons whilst Yuki put in a captains effort for the losing team with 3 checks and 5 tons.

A typical Charles and Rob effort helped Black Magic snag a win off Los Lochos Borrachos. Those 2 players made 2/3 Checks for their team. Black Magic won’t be the only team looking to improve their results as the LLB’s managed to lose 5/6 team games for the night. Black Magic def. Los Lochos Borrachos 7-5 (12-11).

Colin, Kevin and Peter all knocked up 3 checks each for Los Lochos with Colin also getting 6 tons and Kevin a nice 80 out along with 5 tons of his own. As mentioned above, Charles and Rob played well for Black Magic with both players scoring 4 checks each.

In the ‘Insanity Cup’ it was Mad House who came out victors over a noticeably weaker Mad Cow team. Mad House started well winning the first 4 games of the night but quickly found themselves under fire from the newly promoted Mad Cow team after they scored 4 quick victories to level the scores at 4-4. Mad House had a much stronger tail and won 3 out of the remaining 4 games to win the night 7-5 (14-10).

Phong, Phuong and Mark played well for the Cow but were outshone by Keith, Carl and Colin from Mad House.

Checks lead is shared by Colin(Mad House) and Daniel Bourne(Prixxx) with 5

The tons lead is shared 3 players, Colin(Los Lochos Borrachos), Charles (Black Magic), Daniel Bourne (Prixxx) who all have 6 each.

Few high checkouts this week but the biggest of all was Carl’s 85 (Mad House).

Division 3

The Tavern haven’t found life any easier in Division 3 after dropping down over the off season, they came across newly formed Team Viet in what ended up being a very one sided match. Team Viet won the first 9 games without dropping a leg. Team Viet def. The Tavern 11-1(21-3).

All 6 of Team Viet’s players ended up with 2 checks or more, stand outs were Oanh and Xu with 5 each.

Boston Bullseyes arrived at Charm Bar with a grudge to bear after they had secured the venue in the off season only to be ousted by Bernies shortly before the season started. It didn’t start to well for them however, with Bernies winning the first 3 games. This didn’t last too long as a very strong performance in the singles by the Boston crew saw them take the win. Boston Bullseyes def. Bernies Charm Bar 7-5 (14-11)

Boston showed good depth with 7 players recording a check or more with Kevin and Matt getting 3 each. For Bernies it was Xuan leading the way with 3.

Blue Gecko kept their winning record at M52 in tact with a close 7-5 (13-12) win over ACDC. Things were evenly poised for most of the match, the Geckos 4 victories in the singles helped get them across the line.

For Gecko it was a captains night out as George picked up 3 with former VC Simon getting 3 of his own. For ACDC it was Brian and Hien who were left to do most of the work, they had 4 and 3 respectively.

No Star Where traveled to Buddha Bar and managed to come away with chocolates in close fought 7-5 (13-11) victory. It came down to every darters worst nightmare, the team game where Rob W for No Star Where was able to get the check and the 3 points.

It was a great night for Rob W as he picked up the maximum 6 checks for the night. Tun from Buddha Bar had 4.

The final match of the round was between two newcomers to the SIDL circuit, Mexico Lindo and Buhay Na Buhay. It was a rough initiation for Mexico Lindo as they went down 1-11(3-19) to a very strong Buhay Na Buhay team.

Alfred and Ted had 4 checks each for Buhay Na Buhay.

Some standout performances this week with Rob W(No Star Where) leading the way with 6 checks followed closely by Xu and Oanh(Team Viet) with 5 each.

Xu(Team Viet) had 5 tons to have a lead of 2 over a group of players on 3.

No high checkouts yet.
